Fireworks are ubiquitous on the Fourth of July—we just can’t celebrate our nation’s independence without them! We impatiently wait for darkness to settle in, as we join the crowds at the city park or the riverfront. Soon, all of our waiting pays off. A small streak of light hisses upwards and the sky is filled with an explosive ka-boom, colorful sparkles, and a chorus of “oohs” and “ahhs”.

Fireworks are a sign of celebration and they’re often used at ballparks and weddings, too. What if we celebrated our Savior, Jesus, and our faith with fireworks? What special times would have you setting off fireworks?

  • Celebrating Easter Sunday with trumpets, hymns, and the proclamation of Matthew 28:6. He is risen, indeed!
  • Hearing the Gospel message for all believers. God’s glorious, free grace for every Christian!
  • Witnessing a baptism or dedication of faith. The Holy Spirit is at work among us! Welcome to the family of God!

But, let’s not stop there. As we live out our lives of faith, many of the seemingly inconsequential moments deserve fireworks, too. Jesus’ healing, mercy, and forgiveness surround us everywhere we go!

Let’s celebrate every time someone:

  • stops to offer help to a hurting soul
  • looks at an overbooked calendar, but makes time to serve the community
  • offers Christ-like forgiveness and provides a second chance to someone who’s done wrong
  • reminds a fellow believer of the God-given peace and purpose that motivates us

In a fireworks show, they save the best for last. It’s the concluding climax that fills the sky with deafening noise and blazing light. Similarly, we will save our best fireworks and our biggest celebrations for those events that stir heaven itself: a life transformed, a sinner who repents, a wandering soul found by our seeking God.

And, one day, we’ll witness the most glorious celebration of all:

They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. (Matthew 24:30-31)

Send up your fireworks of faith! Praise him–today and forever!
